LESS LOCAL FRUIT VEGETABLES IN DEMAND Local fruit Is registering a falling off in supply at the City Marts. Field and garden produce is offering in average quantities. Little Island fruit is available. Grapes, sent forward on consignment from Australia, are meeting only with a quiet demand. Farmers’ produce is coming forward in fair supply. FRUIT Apples and pears are easing off in supply", but the quality is improving and prices are firm. Tomatoes are in short supply and the Hutt product is almost off the market. Ripe bananas are scarce and each day sees a hardening in values. A fresh shipment is due to arrive on the s.s. Tofua next Monday. Orange stocks will be supplemented by a consignment from America via Wellington, to arrive tomorrow. Representative prices range as follow: —Apples—Delicious, 4s to 9s 6d; local Sturmers, 5s to 7s 6d; extra choice ex cooler. 10s to 11s; Munroes, 4s to 6s 6d; Ballarats, 6s 6d to Ss; Pride of Australia, 5s 6d to 6s 6d; Jonathan. 6s 6d to 8s; Northern Spy's, 6s to 9s. Brightons, 5s to 6s. Pears: Winter Cole, 8s to 13s; Winter Nellis, Ss to 11s; Keiffer, 4s to 6s 6d; cooking, 6s to 7s 6d. Cape gooseberries, 4Ad to 5d a lb.; hot-house grapes, Is 3d to 2s; Australian, 18s a 251 b. case; extra choice hot-house make higher values; repacked bananas, 30s to 32s a case; lemons, 6s to 9s; American oranges, 38s to 40s a case; grape fruit, 355; tomatoes, choice, local, 6s to 10s; lower grades, 2s to 4s; Hutt, up to 10s a case; hot-house up to 11s a case. VEGETABLES With the approach of winter a better demand is registered for most vegetable lines, and prices in one or two instances tend to firm. Local potatoes are falling off in supply, but ample supplies of Southern are available. Prices range as follow: —Potatoes: Southern, 6s 6d to 9s a cwt.; local, 2s 6d to 3s 6d a sack; onions, best quality*, 2s to 2s 6d a bag; kumeras, 2s 3d to 3s a sugar bag; swedes, Is 3d to 2s a bag; pumpkins, 3s to 8s 6d a cwt, according to variety and quality'; citron melons, 2s to 4s a sack; cabbages, 5s to 8s a sack; cauliflowers, 9s to 20s a sack; pickling onions, Id to l£d a lb.; rhubarb, Is 6d to 2s 6d a dozen; marrows, Is 6d to 2s 6d a dozen; leeks, 4d to 6d a bundle; spring onions, 6d to 9d a bundle; celery, Is to 2s 6d a bundle; spinach, 8d to Is a dozen; carrots, turnips, parsnips and beet, 6d to 9d a dozen. POuCVrY Poultry' is offering in average numbers. Prices rang.e as follow: —Prime cockerels, 3s 6d to 7s; fat roosters, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; fat pens, 2s 6d to 4s: young ducks (Runners), 5s to 6s; old ducks, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; old drakes, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; good pullets about to lay, 6s 6d to 7s 6d; smaller pullets, 3s upwards.
