MOUNT EDEN COUNCIL
THE NEW TERM OPENING MEETING In congratulating councillors last evening upon their return for a further term, Air. E. H. Potter, Mayor of Mt. Eden, stated that the result of the recent election was undoubtedly a vote of conlidence in the policy of the council. The council had carried out an extensive programme of works, and still had some in hand to complete, particularly with regard to drainage. Street improvements had also been carried out, said Air. Potter. A number of thoroughfares had been put down in bitumen and concrete, and further streets would be so treated from time to time until all borough roads were completed.
Cr. Smith said that the return of so many of the old council not only showed confidence in the council, but also in the Mayor. On behalf of councillors he congratulated Air. Potter upon his return to the mayoral chair to complete the proposals now in hand.
The engineer reported that a serious nuisance existed in the overflow of sewage from the City Council sewerage system iin St. Leonard’s Hoad. He stated that he had drawn the attention of the City Council to the nuisance and had suggested certain improvements, but his letter and suggested remedy had been ignored. It was agreed that the chairman of the works committee and Cr. Morrison be appointed a sub-committee to inspect and report. It was resolved that the sum of £ 3 3s be donated to a fund for the providing of a wireless plant to the Auckland Hospital. An application from the Eden Rugby Football Club for annual donation (£3 3s) was approved. Eden Shops In connection with the proposed visit of the Director of Town-planning, it was resolved that a meeting be arranged during his visit to Auckland. Referring to the question of townplanning, Cr. Fraser stated that some shops recently erected near the Alt. Eden bowling green were a disgrace to the borough. The Mavor: In what way. Don’t they comply with the building regulations. Cr. Fraser: If they do the regulations want altering. Show them to the Director of Town-planning and see what he thinks of them.
The mayor said that he would have a look at the buildings in question.
