POPULAR SCHOOL TEACHER

RETIRES AT PUKEKOHE (.From Our Oven Correspondent .) PUKEKOHE, To-day. After an enviable record of 41 years in the teaching profession, some 30 years of which have been spent at Pukekohe, Miss A. S. O. Hamlin, infant mistress, has tendered her resignation to the A-uckland Education Board. Miss Hamlin embarked upon her career as a teacher on January 26, 1886, on which date she was appointed a pupil teacher at the Waiuku school. In following years Miss Hamlin spent short terms at the Waipipi, Whangarei, Mauku, Whareora, Grafton Road, and Chapel Street schools, in the capacity of assistant teacher. On October 3, 1897, she was transferred to the Pukekohe school, and has held the office of infant mistress to date. Miss Hamlin has always ranked high as an efficient teacher, and during her long stay in the district has gained a wide circle of friends. She is expected to relinquish her duties at the end of the month.
