MOTHERS’ DAY

ANNUAL OBSERVANCE The annual observance of Mothers’ Day, the second Sunday in May, took place in churches of different denominations yesterday, the occasion being symbolised by the wearing of white flowers by the male members of the congregation. In the majority of churches sermons appropriate to the occasion were delivered. At the Y.M.C.A. a very largelyattended men’s meeting was held, Mr. W. J. Holds worth, the president being in the chair, and Archbishop Averill the speaker. Mr. Holdsworth. on behalf of those present, heartily thanked the archbishop for his address, and this was enthusiastically endorsed by the men present. A home hour tea, organised by a group of ladies, followed this.
