BLUSTERY WEATHER MAUNGAKIEKIE CLUB A fairly high wind ruled on Saturday afternoon, and scoring was not so high as usual. At Titirangi, a sealed handicap bogey competition was held, and the checkup gave a win to J. M. Hockin (5), 2 up. A. B. Joplin was 1 up from the 10 mark, and A. J. Good (12), H. S. Keesing (10), F. S. Ballin (11), S. Hunter (8), and Goulding (1), were all 1 down. The Kingswell Shield first round, the best two of three bogey rounds to count, wa3 played at One Tree Hill. The best cards returned were:—F. W. Wilson (12), 2 down: G. C. St. George (11), 2 down: S. C. Western (10), 3 down; C. M. King (9), 3 down: J. F. Rankin (15), S down; J. W. Clarke (9), 4 down; J. Murray (15), 4 down. AUCKLAND CLUB The George Cup bogey competition •t Middlemore resulted in a win for V. Wilson (11), 3 up; A. W. Donald (14), and J. P. Aldred (6), were eacli 1 up. GLENDOWIE CLUB The second round of a 36-hole eclectic competition was played at Glendowie. R. Kissling, 78—13, 65, proved the winner in the senior grade, and P. C. Niccolls, 85—18. 67. in the junior grade. Other goods cards were: L. Goodwin, 77—11, 66; R. Bradley, 82— 15, 67; L. Harrison, 98 —30, 68, 11. Goodwin, 93—25, 68. PUPUKE CLUB The best cards returned in the medal competition at Pupuke were:—A. F. Burnett. 89—18. 71; M. E. Thompson, —ls, 72; and S. R. Morris, 92 —20, OTAHUHU OPENS Otahuhu Club held its opening on Saturday, with a large attendance, the course being in excellent order. A mixed foursome was played, the winners being Miss O. Witley and N Clark, with a net 53. WAITEMATA CLUB Members of the Waitemata Golf Club took part in a bogey medal match on Saturday afternoon at the North Shore hriks. The match resulted in a win for B. Jackson, with R. Porter second. WAITEMATA LADIES' CLUB Canadian foursomes will be played at the Waitemata Ladies’ Club’s links ? n Wednesday. The competition will open to aII grades, and the draw take place at noon. THE EVERSLIE CLUB On Saturday last the Everslie Club ■'Pened its new links, which are situon Beach Road, Papakura, and °^** e d by Mr. Balfour Irvine. The club has been fortunate in securing a tease of 105 acres of first-class golfing C ? l ? try 80 near the township. The club also has the sole use of a fiver °°med house for a pavilion. The course, which is an 18-hole one. has been laid out by the professional, Mr. L. C. Clements.

The course is an interesting one. on yndulating country. For new links the fairway and greens are In very good °rder. Long and short holes have been Provided and already bunkers have been made at some of the greens. The remainder will be bunkered as the s eason advances. The club’s enterprise in securing such a fine property for their links has been responsible for \ Very i ar K e increase in the membership. At the official opening on Saturday there was an attendance of 150 Players, including visitors from the surrounding clubs. The opening ceremony was performed by the president of the club, Mr. p. j. Parker, who welcomed the many visitors and wished them good sport. He said he was sorry it had heen necessary for the club to have to find new links this year, but he leit sure .the move would provide the club with plentv of good golf. He Ptid a tribute to the captain, Mr. A. G. Smith. and his band of helpers who nad worked so hard in preparing the Ground ready for play, and amid ap-

plause declared the links open. He then called on Mrs. Agmen Smith to drive the first ball.

Mixed foursomes were played over 11 of the 12 boles open for play, and resulted in a tie between the following: Johnson and Miss Barker, Coyle and Miss Cosgrave, R. O’Neill and Miss O’Neill, with a net score of 52 each. The play-off resulted in a win for Johnson and Miss Parker. The players and guests were subsequently entertained to afternoon tea, during which the vice captain, Mr. C. S. Beechev, anounced that the patron, Mr. Balfour Irvine, had generously donated a club championship cup and a challenge cup for annual competition between the Everslie and Pukekohe Clubs. The announcement was received with rounds of applause, and Mr. Irvine was heartily thanked for his generous gifts. The visitors were full of praise for Papakura’s new golf course.
