TO THE FORE
At the yearling sales at Trentham last January, several youngsters by Valkyrian were submitted, but did not attract keen competition. The crowd of sportsmen round the ring that day will now be regretting their inactivity on that occasion, for this imported horse was very much in the limelight at Te Rapa on Wedensday. Two of his progeny were successful, Whakarite winning the two-year-old race with consummate ease, and Valkon, a three-year-old, won the principal event, the Te Rapa Handicap, one mile. In particular Vafkon's form was very impressive, coming as it did in such a good field and on top of many previous successes in less pretentious company, earning for himself in the South the title of champion hack.
