KING ALFRED
King Alfred was a Saxon King Who fought the Danes like anything; From end to end of W’essex they— And he—went fighting day by day Until at Ethandun he beat His foes, and crushed them in defeat. Alfred made very few mistakes. And yet when set to watch the cakes Lest they should burn . . . you must admit He made a sorry mess of it!
