FAMILY THREATENED

WIFE’S COMPLAINT SEPARATION GRANTED After hearing Mrs. Gilbert’s story of domestic unhappiness in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., had no hesita.tion in making a separation, maintenance and guardianship order against her husband, Edward Gilbert. Mrs. Gilbert told the court that her husband had frequently threatened to murder her and the children. Once he said that he would hammer out their brains with a hammer. He had threatened to attack both herself and the children with a breadknife, she said, and on one occasion he brought an axe into the sittingroom and threatened to hack the piano to pieces.

If Edward Gilbert goes near his wife or children or threatens them again, the court will have something further to say in the matter. He was ordered to pay £2 towards the support of his estranged wife and family.
