FORBURY PARK
TO-MORROW’S MEETING PROSPECTS DISCUSSED By ABAYDOS " The winter meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club will commence tomorrow and conclude on Saturday. The Dunedin gathering is always an attractive one, and while there is seldom any representatives present at the fixture from the far North, followers of the sport in this province keep in close touch with the events at Forbury. Good fields are carded for the opening day and punters appear to be set a pretty stiff problem to single out the respective dividend earners. The programme will be opened by the unhoppled trotters, who will parade for the
In this big field there are a number of aspirants off the end whose credentials are not widely known, but Peter Boy looks the pick of the bunch. Great Amazon is an improving trotter, while Hawkesbury’s Pride, a solid kind, appears to be held safe by Ben Logan. Katute and Nourmahal are nicely placed, while further back the merry twain, Merry Peter and Merry Bingen will not be cast aside by backers. Ben Logan, Nourmahal and Peter Boy may give the judge something to do to separate them at the finish. - The popular Southern distance, a mile and five furlongs is also the journey set the pacers in the
McElwyn . .12 The limit continegtn promises to play a very prominent part in the decision of this heat, Asset, No Fear, and the improving Firebrand threatening to make the task of those at the rear a stiff one. Nelson McElwyn has won over this distance in the South and will have a good following from that quarter. AVenlo is a possibility, while Drake can muster up a lot of pace on occasions. Asset may experience the most serious opposition from No Fear and Nelson McElwyn. Milers who like to feel the weight fair and square on their back will engage the attention of the crowd in the
Queen’s General, who let the public down badly at the Royal meeting at Christchurch, will most likely go out a warm favourite again, and the grey mare has only to go away smartly to bid the rest good-bye. Lucky Harold has form to recommend him, while Desborough is sure to be in good demand. Lenamhor and Menember, despite advancing years, are never finished with till the post is passed, and Author Jinks, the back-marker must command the utmost respect. If the Author Dillon gelding is started in this go he will probably find his way through, but will probably find serious opposition from Queen’s General. The trotting section will now have another chance to display ability in the
Nourmahal is well placed in this event, but the distance may be a shade far for her, but Alpha Wilkes should be equal to seeing the journey out to the bitter end. Sea Queen won nicely at Timaru, while Tamerlane if recovered from his recent injuries which kept him off the scene at Ashburton, should be well in the limelight. Tim Wood is a tough customer at any time and the Aucklander, Sebisca, must be showing some improvement to warrant his inclusion in the field. Bridget Galindo will be with them when it comes to the terminus, and may find Sea Queen and Alpha Wilkes the hardest to dispose of. With the first half of the card disposed of the public will turn attention towards the aspirants for honours in the big event, figured as the
Some high-class two mile pacers will test their speed and staying powers in this heat, while the trotter Napland will try his skill with the strapped division. Macaranda is a solid customer, and as he is partial to the Dunedin track he will receive a lot of support. Fight Ever’s form at Addington is suggestive of another hard fight. Jolly Chimes is also capable of going a good race, so the frontmarkers will set a merry clip. St. Maura will probably account for Bessie Logan and Shine Soon, while of the quintette just behind them Talent may make the best showing. Queen’s own was coming to hand at Addington and should be well forward at Forbury, while Loganwood usualv races well on this track. Native Chief will be on the heels of the field when the fight begins in earnest, and perhaps Fight Ever, Queen’s Own, and Talent will last the longest in a hard tussle. The excitement over the main event will not have properly subsided when a seelct field of solid square-gaited contestants will face the starter in the ST. CLAIR HANDICAP
Those who have followed the form and fortunes of the straight-out trotters recently will see at a glance what a wealth of trotting talent is engaged in his encounter, and every candidate
in worthv of q place in such company. Trampfast has been tramping attractively and if lie steps out ktr.dly Lowe's charge will make those behind him move. Blue Thorpe, Engagement. Peter Swift. Pete Peter, Le Todd, and Charles Dixie will all be in the liringline, and the two Peters may prove Trampfast s most serious opponents. The next event to come up for decision will be the
If Okoura is as partial to harness as she is to the saddle the Great Audubon mare will keep the opposition mighty busy. Queen s General will be better suited in the saddle heat, but Conara is a pacer that is coming along nicely and should be just about ready. Kibiringi is well overdue, but has been getting closer to the coveted prize, while Auditress and Ariki are a smart pair that will go all the way. Auditress. Kibiringi and Conara may find favour with the public. The way will now be paved for the speedy milers who prefer to do their best between the shafts of a sulky with the

Author Jinks is very handy and just behind the youngster is another speedy customer in Harold Thorpe. Final McKinney has done well in saddle, and may reproduce her best form in harness, while General Bingen will not tarry on the journey. Fight Ever will be handy when it comes to the final issue, and he may catch all but Author Jinks, while Some Wilkes will be a nuisance to him also.
