TROTTING AT DUNEDIN
VERY LARGE FIELDS QUICK BEGINNERS WANTED to THE SUE .) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. It is well that the law appertaining to galloping events does not exist in the trotting game regarding big fields, for at Forbury no fewer than live races would have to be run in divisions. The fields are much too big to furnish good contests, and in their desire to support a candidate that may pay a dividend, backers would first be wise to select one that is a quick beginner, and off or near the front of the handicap. The meeting is set down for tomorrow and Saturday. GREEN TROTTERS A bunch of more or less green trotters will assemble for the Bayfield. Handicap, for which the fashionablybred Artotis will be favourite. He is destined to enter the highest ranks, but it may be next year before he becomes solid enough to punt on. If he goes level all the way he will win tomorrow. His most dangerous opponents are Peter Boy and Jock Bingen. SLUMP IN THE MARKET Slump has come into the market for the Domain Handicap, but when Stockade Jun., Firebrand and Asset range alongside of him he will realise that he is in for a hard winter. THE SADDLE EVENT Dunedin supporters of light harness pastime won’t hear of Moor Chimes getting beaten in the Beach Handicap. She is certainly a handy sort and one that will go well on any kind of track. Lucky Harold, Hoon Hay and Queen’s General will also have plenty of friends. SOME SOLID TROTTERS Of the crowd near the limit of the Innovation Handicap, Sea Queen has the best credentials over a two-mile journey. Katute is overdue, but she has yet to become solid. Tamerlane and Bridget Galindo will go good races. PRINCE OF WALES HANDICAP Now for the big race. If the track is heavy Macaranda and Fight Ever will make it difficult for others to head them in the Prince of Wales Handicap. Jolly Chimes is also credited with ability to go in mud, and if the dust is flying Fight Ever will beat Macaranda and make it mighty inconvenient for Jolly Chimes to. head him to the wire. If there is a surprise packet in the field it might be Napland, as he is very well and has had a good deal of experience lately among the pacers. Of those farther back in the handicap, Shine Soon and Queen’s Own show most promise, but when the battle is over Fight Ever and Jolly Chimes will keep Queen’s Own busy. IF TRAMPFAST LEAVES It is only a question of Trampfast leaving the mark correctly to be the first home in the St. Clair Handicap. Ingle Bingen has improved and is likely to be in the picture. As for the remainder of the party, Engagement and Money Spider read best. MAY BE A NUISANCE The Invercargill-trained Desert Star will be a nuisance in the Renown Handicap. He is an improving pacer and one that is true as steel. Mate O’ Mine and Lingfield are entitled to favourable consideration also. SPEEDY MILERS In the Flying Handicap Desborough, Logan Holme and Author Jinks might be capable of pleasing their support-
