MAKING ROOM

PROMISING YOUNGSTERS TO RACE FOR WANGANUI OWNER BRED IN THE PURPLE The Thorn is to go to Australia this month. ITe is to be raced over there, and it is quite on the cards that he will be sold there. Recently Mr. G. M. Currie parted with that gay deceiver, Deluge, to a Trentham sportsman, and now he is desirous of quitting The Thorn. The reason for this step, Mr. Currie explained to THE SUN representative, is that he must make room for the rising two-year-olds soon to be placed in work. There are seven boxes, occupied by Lysander, Mask, the two-year-olds Thaw, Damaris and Covent Garden, and the pair mentioned above. Walter Rayner will have to prepare for next season’s racing two very promising yearlings. One is a filly by the successful sire Limond, from Homage, her first foal. As a racehorse Homage had a big burst of speed, in common with most of the Absurds, but she was very unlucky on the track, and by no

means the best was seen of her. Mr. Currie affirms that her foal is one of the beat he has ever had, and as his opinion must carry a lot of weight the appearance of this youngster on the turf will be awaited with the keenest interest. The second yearling to be handled is by Thespian, from Cowl, the dam of Rational and The Monk, also of Mask. This is a filly also, and she gives every indication of placing Thespian’s name before the racing world as a successful sire. Mr. Currie for the last few years has been represented on the race track by some speedy youngsters, and the mere fact that he is optimistic as to the future of his latest pair leads one to hope that either may turn out to be a Motley or a Lysander. IN EASY WORK Though he is not being subjected to any fast work, The Thorn is accomplishing just enough to keep him in good trim prior to being shipped to Sydney on the 20th inst. Pentagram is also bowling along freely. OFF TO HAWERA P. Conway intends leaving * for Hawera next Sunday with Lewellyn, who is to compete at the Egmont Racing Club’s meeting. T. George will also be making the trip with Baby Bun, and he may go on to Wanganui subsequently. AUCKLAND NOMINATIONS Owners and trainers are reminded the entries for minor events at the Auckland winter meeting, on June'3 4 and 8. close with the secretary, Mr. W. S. Spence, at 5 p.m. on Friday.
