CHEAPER GRAPES LITTLE SALE FOR ONIONS Little alteration was registered in prices at to-day’s sales in the City auction markets. Most varieties of autumn orchard and garden produce were in good supply. FRUIT Local fruits, apples and pearly in particular, have registered a decline in quality during the last week or so and a fair quantity of inferior lots are coming forward. Favourable seasonal conditions in Australia have resulted iu heavy crops of grapes, and growers there are looking to New Zealand to absorb their surplus. Regular shipments are nowbeing landed in Auckland on consignment and realising from 18s to 20s per 251 b case. A shipment of American oranges is due in Auckland toward the end of the week. Principal fruit prices range as follow. according to quality:—Apples, 3s to 7s 6d per case; pears. 3s to 11s; tomatoes, 2s to 5s a case: bananas, repacks, 18s to 20s; Fiji mandarins, 14s to 15s a case. VEGETABLES Cabbages are tending to be oversupplied and prices are easier. Only better-keeping lots of onions are meeting with much demand and the market continues glutted with inferior parcels. Local potatoes are meeting with slack sales at from 2s 6d to 4s 3d a. sugar-bag; pumpkins are making 2s to 9s a cwt., according to quality; cabbages, Is to 4s 6d a bag; onions, 6s to 6s 6d for firm samples. POULTRY Average offerings of poultry are coming forward and meeting with a fair demand at late quotations. Prices range: Prime cockerels, 5s 6d to 6s 6s; light do., 4s to 5s 6d; fat roosters, 2s to 3s 9d; fat hens, 2s 9d to 4s; young ducks, runners, 5s 6d to 6s 3d; old ducks, 3s 6d to 4s 3d; fat drakes, 2s 6d to 3s; White Leghorns, close to laying, up to 10s; geese, 4s 6d to 6s 6d.

LONDON MARKETS LONDON FRUIT SHIPMENT Cabled advice has been received from the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board’s London representative as follows: lonic shipment: All pears except Vicars, 17s a crate downwards. Cox’s as a whole disappointing. A few Delicious were showing waste. The rest of the apples very fair condition. Prices: Cox’s, 16s, 20s; Jonathan, 14s, 17s; Delicious, 14s, 16s; Ribston, 14s, 15s; Adams’ Pearmain, 14s; King David, 14s, 15s; Dunn’s, 13s, 15s; Alfriston. 13s; Lord Wolseley, 12s, 13d; London Pippin, 12s. 14s.
