ROAD BOARD ELECTIONS
NOMINATIONS RECEIVED The bi-ennial election of members of local road boards will be held tomorrow. Six nominations w’ere received for the four vacancies on the Tamaki Road Board. They were: Lawrence Edward Bradley, George Cole, Robert Brockie Mason, David Moir, Richards Pengelley and John Charles Rowe. Mr. Mason has since retired, there now being five candidates for the four seats. Polling will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the following polling places: St. Heliers, Road Board Office; Auckland, Manukau County Council Chambers, corner Shortland and Princes Streets; Kohimarama, Gray’s Hall; Tamaki, residence of Mr. G. Welch, Tamaki West Road. The following eight names have been received as candidates for the four vacancies on the One Tree Hill Road District: —Henry Kenyon Clayton, Herbert Boucher Dobbie, Joseph Speight Hardwicke. John Mathieson, Claude Purchas, Thomas Henry Rowe, Norman Wade, and Thomas Whitehead. The polling places are:—Greenwood’s Corner, vacant shop next Fow - ler, land agent; Ranfurly Road East. St. George's Church Hall; Broadway, Board’s temporary offioes, Abbott’s Buildings; Penrose, St. George’s Church Hall; Green Lane, Fire Brigade Station; City, Chamber of Commerce Building.
Repairing Grafton Bridge.—Weather conditions were entirely favourable for the commencement of the repairing of Grafton Bridge yesterday, and the contractors removed about half of the old surface and commenced laying the new surface at Grafton end. The men continued work in the evening. About 300 tons of bitumen will be necessary in the new pavement.
