MOTOR-CAR FIRE

SPARK FROM SPANNER OWNER’S PROMPT EXIT A five-seater Rollin motor-car owned by Mr. Harrison Smith, of Victoria Avenue, Remuera, was totally destroyed by fire shortly before nine o’clock last evening. Mr. Smith was attending to the car in a garage situated in Shore Road, near the Convent of the Sacred Heart. He dropped a spanner on the battery, which caused a spark, and some benzine become ignited. The next moment the whole car was in flames, Mr. Smith making his escape through the window. The Remuera and Parnell Fire Brigades were summoned, and although they prevented any serious damage to the garage, they were unable to save the car. The motor-car was insured for £3OO in the Sun Office, and the garage for £SO in the New Zealand Insurance Office.
