WAIOURU-TOKAANU ROAD
TWO STREAMS BRIDGED Improvements in the condition of the Waiouru-Tokaanu Road are reported by the secretary of the Taihape Chamber of Commerce, Mr. C. Masters, who writes as under:—“The two streams on this road, the crossings of which were awkward, and sometimes dangerous, have now been bridged. The bridges themselves are completed and we are reliably informed that the approaches to same will also be completed within the next few days. “The road after the 12-mile peg is at the present time not in too good condition, but this, we understand, is also receiving the necessary attention.” MUSSOLINI AND MOTORING Mussolini has apparently planned to make all Italian motorists Government auxiliaries. He recently ordered the Automobile Club of Italy to transfer its headquarters from Milan to Rome, and has ordered all Italian motor owners to become members. The club now has greater powers and responsibilities. It must maintain a register in which all sales of motor vehicles throughout the country, and, in fact, all financial transactions relative to motor-cars, are to be entered. The hire-purchase plan is to be encouraged. but all transactions are illegal unless registered with the club.
