WEEK-END GOLF
BRILLIANT CONDITIONS OPENING DAY AT TITIRANGI Perfect weather conditions ruled for Auckland golfing events on Saturday afternoon. The principal fixture was the opening of the Maungakiekie Club’s Titirangi links, the conditions being entirely the opposite to those on the previous Saturday, when the One Tree Hill links were opened. The course was in first-class order, and the scoring for mixed foursome play was good, two pairs finishing 2 up, and having to play off. These were Miss H. Laurenson and T. H. Chapman, and Mrs. and G. M. White. Other cards returned included: R. M. George and Mrs. J. C. Finlay, 5, 1 down; G. C. St. George and Mrs. Roberts, 14, 1 down; L. Etherington and Mrs. Friar, 18, 1 down; F. Trice and Miss R. McCabe, 13, 1 down; H. A. Randrup and Mrs. Rutherford, 11, 1 down; J. B. Stewart and Miss D. Horton, 9, 1 down; R. O. and Mrs. Gardner, 12, 2 down; 11. S. Keesing and Miss Stewart, 14, 2 down. The putting competition held during the evening by electric light was won by J. M. Hockin and M.iss K. Horton, who returned a card of 25 for the 14 holes. Players and visitors were the guests of the president and lady captain, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Taylor, at afternoon tea. TITIRANGI LADIES The following is the draw for the C grade match, to be iflayed by members of the Maungakiekie Ladies’ Golf Club on the Titirangi links tomorrow, commencing at 11 o’clock: Mrs. Brooke-Taylor v. Mrs. H. Cooke, Miss M. Bailey v. Miss D. Cooper; Mrs. Fitzpatrick v. Miss M. Hoyes, Miss M. Mackay v. Mrs. Nicholson. AUCKLAND CLUB Medal matches for A and B grades were played at Middlemore on Saturday. Conditions were somewhat hazy The best cards returned were; A grade—H. A. Joyce, 83 —12, 71; C. M. WAITEMATA CLUB In a four-ball at Waitemata on Saturday, the best card returned was by Baxter and Kennedy, 4 down. PUPUKE CLUB •V The four-ball bogey competition at Puquke Club on Saturday resulted in a win for A. M. Howden and D. C. R. Mowbray, who finished 3 up.
