SATISFACTORY YEAR

TAURANGA ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, To-day. The annual meeting of the Tauranga Acclimatisation Society was held on Friday evening, Mr. J. A. McKenzie presiding over a very fair attendance of members. The president's report stated that the society was in a very sound position. The income for the year exceeded the expenditure by £S3 18s 3d. Ninety-eight pheasants had been liberated. Although no big bags had been obtained yet the results, on the whole, had been good, and there was fair prospects for this season. In the matter of deer there had been no scarcity. Unfortunately the Fisheries Department was unable to supply any trout, fry, so no stocking had been done. He recommended the society to persevere with the stocking of yearlings, as experiments in that direction had been a complete success, lie stated that very few' fishing licences had been taken out this season, and put it down to the new regulations at Taupo and Rotorua. In his opinion a strong protest should be made at the next conference of societies. So long as separate licences were required for Rotorua and Taupo there was very little chance of selling many licences in Tauranga district. The balance-sheet showed that there was £497 9s 7d in the bank. The freehold property was valued at £4O and the aviary at £24. During the year £145 6s 6d had been expended in the purchase of pheasants. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. J. A. McKenzie (re-elected): vice-presidents Messrs. A. Brown, T. H. Hall and A. J. Sladden; council. Messrs. J. Tanner, A J. Rolfe, W. F. Sinclair, A. Hardy. B. Sladden, J. Pemberton, A. H Fall well, V. Bannatyne and A. C. O’Neill: auditor. Mr. W. J. Baigent. Mr. J. A. McKenzie, who has occupied the office of president for 32 years, was elected a life member. A meeting of the council was held later, when Mr. Bannatyne suggested that opossums should be introduced into the district, and the opinions of settlers are to be obtained. The secretary stated that it had been decided fo purchase 70 pheasants from Napier. Arrangements were made for holding the annual dinner at an early date.
