VICTORIA LEAGUE

EVER READY COMMITTEE ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Victoria League Sub-Committee, the Ever Ready Committee, was held on Wednesday evening, when Mrs. Rickerby presided over a large attendance of members. The report of the work accomplished last year was read and adopted, and the chairman spoke of the splendid work done by the girls belonging to this committee, eulogising their enthusiasm and its gratifying results — results that were shown in the sunshine and brightness brought into the lives of the many people with whom they had come in contact. The children’s hospital had been visited every fortnight, and a Christmas party had been given to the little patients, a party at which everyone was happy, and at which the wonderful Christmas tree was perhaps the greatest treat of all to all the children who enjoyed it. Concerts had been organised and given successfully at the Evelyn Firth Home, Auckland Infirmary, Jubilee Institute for the Blind, and Knox Home, while card parties had been arranged at the Evelyn Firth Home. Two hundred and eleven scrap books had been made and sent to children in the back blocks, while at Christmas time a large number of toys were made by the girls and sent away to various parts of the country. Miss Mowbray, president of the Victoria League, addressed the members, thanking them for their loyal and whole-hearted services, that had been so willingly devoted to the work of the league. Arangements were made to assist the Ever Ready Committee with the jumble sale they propose holding early in May, and also to help the Rev. Jasper Calder with his bazaar in aid of the unemployment relief fund, to be held during June. The election of officers then took place, when the following were elected for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mrs. L. S. Rickerby; bon. secretary, Miss S. Tancred; assistant secretary, the Misses K. Aickin and E. Adkins.
