ATHENIAN CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING “The coming season augurs well to be the most brilliant socially since the inception of the club, some three years ago. New members are enrolling in large numbers, and very soon we shall have to close our lists.” Such was the gist of the remarks made by the new president of the Athenian Club, Mr. Percy Free, at its annual meeting, held in the Society of Arts Hall on April 26. The reading of the balance-sheet revealed a credit balance, the assets being in a very healthy state. The club accepted with regret the resignation from the position of secretary, of Mr. C. Porter, which he stated “was occasioned solely by the pressure of other business.” A very large and enthusiastic meeting unanimously elected the following office holders’ committees for the ensuing year: President, Mr. Percy Free; vice-presi-dent, Mr. C. Porter; committee, Mrs. Wright, Misses L. Walker, Walters, Anstiss, Rainey, Messrs. Green, Kane, Kyle, Pettitt, Bridgeman; hon. secretary, Mr. E. Perkins; hon. treasurer, Mr. V. Trask. v It was decided to open officially the 1927 season on May 7; so that members wishing to re-enrol may do so in good time. After the formal business of the evening was concluded a dainty supper was served by the ladies and an enjoyable half hour spent in informal intercourse.
