AMBULANCE DELAY
SOLVED BY CONCRETE ROADS CONVEYANCE OF WOMEN Concrete roads are to solve the difficulty of quick ambulance service to outlying districts, thinks the Hospital Board. The Papakura Town Board wrote to the Hospital Board last night asking for financial assistance for ambulance transport. The letter instanced the delay of two hours before the victims of a recent accident could be brought into the city. The chairman, Mr. W. Wallace: It is very fortunate that the ambulance did arrive there in two hours considering the state of the roads. It accomplished a feat in getting there. When the concrete road is completed in a few months the districts will be within half-an-hour’s run of the city. It was decided to reply that the expense was not warranted as either the St. John’s or the board’s ambulance would be available for service in the district. The National Council of Women wrote asking that a woman attendant should be sent with women patients in the ambulance. The chairman said that in most cases women relatives accompanied the patient. The suggestion was not necessary. Mr. M. J. Coyle: In special cases it might be necessary. The chairman said that in all serious cases a woman attendant would be sent.
