ROUND THE QUAYS

WATERFRONT PATROLS NO REDUCTION ADVISABLE “That the present system be continued,” was the verdict reached by a committee which recently considered the possibilty of reducing the strength of Auckland’s waterfront patrols. On investigation it was found that the harbourmaster’s staff, »being required to have nautical knowledge, could not be dispensed with, while in the interests of efficiency it was not advisable to reduce the number of patrolmen in the traffic department. The existing system will not be changed.
