“STRONG-MINDED!”

EIGHT-YEAR-OLD’S RECORD ATTACKED GIRL WITH COMPASSES An eight-year-old with something of a “record” came before the Children’s Court to-day, charged with being out of control. “He stuck a compass into a girl at school,” said Sergeant D. L. Calwell, “and the doctor said that the point was within an inch of the girl’s lung. That was when he was six.” The father: The children were just playing and he forgot he had the compass in his hand. Why he has been going to Sunday school ever since he has been old enough to know what Sundaf school is! I claim that it is impossible for him to have carried the 501 b. <sf lead he is supposed to have stolen. Sergeant Calwell: He also did damage at the school. The father: I maintain he did no damage. "Where’s the proof? The sergeant: He ’ happens to be charged with being out of control. Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M.. to the father: Does he give you any trouble at home? The father: No, the teacher says he is a bit strong-minded, but he is all right if he is treated with kindness. A Child Welfare officer: The teacher told us he was a nuisance in the class and a constant source of trouble. The Magistrate thought that the boy should be supervised by the Child Welfare officer for two years.
