A RESTLESS SPIRIT
OLD MAN WANDERS WONT STAY IN HOME (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. At 95 years of age Patrick McCollum provides the authorities with a problem. He has spent some time in the Old Men’s Home, but would not stay there. He upset the other Inmates by getting up in the morning and wandering away. He appeared in court to-day answering to a charge of being found on premises in circumstances not disclosing intention to commit a crime. The police said it was rather a problem to know what to do with him. He could not look after himself. When asked by Mr. J. H. Salmon. S.M., McCollum spoke clearly and said he was born on April 4, 1832. “They won’t take me back,” he said, “there is no room for me.” The magistrate: Will you stay there if there is room. Accused: Yes. The magistrate: If you don’t you might have to go to gaol which will not be nearly so comfortable. Sub-Inspector Harvey: 1 doubt if they will have him now. The magistrate: Oh they must. That is absurd. The old man was therefore sent back to the home.
