MT. ALBERT MAYORALTY

CAPT. ATWELL’S CAMPAIGN There were over 100 people present at a meeting held last night in the Edendale Picture Theatre by Captain W. Atwell, who is seeking mayoralty honours against Mr. L. E. Rhodes, Mayor of Mount Albert. After briefly explaining his policy concerning water, sanitation and roads, the candidate criticised the annual report, particularly with reference to the excessive expenditure of loan moneys £93,005. The manner in which the council dealt with public tenders was severely commented on, and the circumstances in connection with accepting the recent tender for the Mount Albert-Onehunga Road was explained. He stated that no credit was due to our council for the remarkable progress of the borough, this progress being entirely owing to the people themselves. A vote of confidence in the candidate was moved and carried. The candidate will address a meeting at the Jubilee Hall, Kingsland, at 8 p.m. to-day. and an open-air meeting near the Council Chambers. Morningside, at S p.m. .on Tuesday next.
