WAITEMATA EXTENSIONS FURTHER AREAS RETICULATED Further extension in the reticulation of the country section, and the supply of alternating current electric power to Devonport, was reported at this morning's meeting of the Waitemata Electric Power Board. The chairman, Mr. J. W. Hayden, presided. The resident engineer, Mr. F. J. H. Wilson, reported that the Swanson line would be completed and the City Council supplied with power well ahead of the contract date. April 26. On the Woodhill section of the main Helensville line, a supply of power would also be available during the week. The 11,000-volt extension to Castor Bay had been completed, and low-tension reticulation was being carried out. At Devonport the changeover of two further sections, namely Vauxhall Road and William Street substations. had been effected, and arrangements had been made for the change-over during the Easter weekend of the area fed from the Regent Street sub-station. On the completion of that work, about one-third of the Devonport consumers would be supplied wit a .i.e. hydro-electric power. Advice was received from the Devonport Borough Council stating that it was prepared to accept the board’s terms for all-night street lighting. The growth of the board's output was indicated in a report showing February-March meter readings at 164,362 units, against 15.720 for the same period the previous year, the value amounting to £2,057 13s Bd. against £207 14s lid. The present reading showed a revenue of over £20.000 per annum, excluding Devonport. ARAPUNI POWER STATION Regarding the supply of current from the Government, the chairman stated that although the board was relying on the Government for their supply, he did not think any difficulty would be experienced during the winter. They were aware that further delays would be experienced at Arapuni. but he had the Government engineer’s assurance that an ample supply would be provided for.
