STRANDED RIVERINA
SEAS MODERATE passengers not yet moved all on board well By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Rec. 10.5 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. Messages from the scene of the Rtverina stranding state that the weather is moderating, but the seas are still too high to permit the steamer Goulburn getting close to the Rjverina. A suggestion was made by Captain Parry, of the Riverina, that if the weather did not moderate sufficiently this morning for passengers to be transferred to the Goulburn, they should be taken ashore at low tide. The Riverina is 300 feet from the shore, and at low tide it would probably be easier to transfer the passengers to the shore than to tranship them to the Goulburn. No decision will be reached, however, until the weather prospects are brighter. Captain Parry stated that a sandbank was forming on the seaward side of the Riverina. All aboard are well and comfortable, and the vessel is not making water. The tug St. Olaves is unable to leave for the scene owing to tempestuous seas. The tug St. Giles has not been reported since she left Sydney, and unless she is sheltering she should now be near the Riverina.—A. and N.Z.
