EASTER BOWLING
FOURS CONTEST TO-DAY’S PLAY The Auckland Bowling Centre’s annual Easter tournament was continued to-day at the Remuera green, when post-section play in the Easter Fours took place. The late afternoon results of yesterday are as follows; Second Round. —Clark, 25, v. Muston, 17; de Launay, 24, v. Hosking, 16; Laurenson, 25, v. Gallaher, 23; Hardley, 23, v. Wakerley, 16. Third round: de Launay, 23, v. Ritchie, 9; Laurenson, 20, v. Hardley, 12; Muston, 20, v. Hosking, 19. Play commenced this morning, with de Launay and Clark each having two lives, while Laurenson, Ritchie and Muston had one life each. De Launay had a bye. The green was in excellent order for play, a short period of sunshine in the morning taking the dampness out of it. The sky overclouded, however, and just when the last head of Ritchie and Muston’s game was being played rain commenced. The game between Ritchie, Carlton, and Muston, Auckland, was fairly even up to the 14th head. On the 16th Ritchie stood at 12 and Muston at 17. Muston’s Auckland team drew well on the 18th head and when Ritchie went to the mat he was three down. tie was playing very consistently, however, and placed two bowls right on the jack, one a “toucher” and the other an inch away, giving him two. On the 18th head Ritchie went to the mat with one down. He played a splendid bowl and trailed the jack, but an opposing bowl intervened and the head finished with Muston still one up. On the 19th head both teams were drawing consistently and several “touchers” were recorded before the skips went to the mat. With one up in Muston’s favour Ritchie attempted to draw, but his bowl was too heavy. His next bowl, a drive, missed its objective by a few inches, leaving Muston one up. The 20th head resulted in Muston scoring one. In the last head Ritchie went to the mat with a deficiency of 7 to score. The bowls were very mixed, however, and his attempt to trail the jack was nullified by an intervening bowl. The game finished: Muston, Auckland, 20, v. Ritchie, Carlton, 15. A very even game resulted between Clark, Mount Albert, and Laurenson, Carlton, up to the 18th head. The 19th head was open when the skips went to the mat. Laurenson played a good bowl, trailing the jack for two Clark altered the position by drawing second shot and Laurenson thus scored one. In the 20th head Laurenson’s Carlton team ran over their opponents and the final result was a good five to him. This made it impossible for Clark to win and the game ended on the 20th head at Clark, Mount Albert, 12, and Laurenson, Carlton, 21. Play at Remuera Green this morning in the competition of the Easter Fours resulted: —Muston. 31, beat Clark, 9; Laurenson, 21, beat Belaumay, 11; Laurenson has a bye in the final.
