latest census report Sy Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Monday. The general report or the census for 1921, which has just been issued shows that the population of England and Wales was 37,750,000, averaging 649 to the square mile, the densest of any country for which statistics are available. Eighty per cent, of the people live in towns, and forty per cent, in 46 towns of upwards of 100,000 in population. The effect of the war is shown in the increased disparity of sexes. The surplus of women is 1,700,000 compared with 1,200,000 in 1911.—A. and N.Z.
