This action was taken because the Privy Council decline i to approve its proposal for an Imperial ordinance to authorise the Bank of Japan unconditionally to support the Bank of Formosa to the extent of £20,000,000. The Emperor has ordered the Prime Minister, Mr. Wakatsuki, to continue in office until his successor has been ■ appointed.—A. and N.SJi.
