THE ABOVE ILLUSTRATION conveys an excellent idea of the race for the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday. At the seven furlongs Day Guard (wide out) was leading Nancy Lee, The Thorn, Quincoma and CIVILITY, and running to the half-mile Day Guard is shown two lengths ahead of Magna Charta (outside) and The Thorn. Into the straight Day Guard is seen leading, with CIVILITY alongside, and Reremoana on the outer. A furlong from home CIVILITY had the advantage over Day Guard and Reremoana (Joy King was just behind them), and at the finish is shown CIVILITY a length and a half ahead of Joy King, with Day Guard third three-quarters of a length away.
