Mr. J. H. C. Bond, Dominion superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company, is on a visit to Auckland.

Mr. A. C. Day, private secretary to the Governor-General, and Mrs. Day left for Wellington by train last evening. Mr. William Grandison, of Pukekohe, and formerly of New Lynn, was admitted by Mr. Justice Stringer as a solicitor of the Supreme Court, on the motion of Mr. Haddow. Messrs W. J. Jordan and H. G. R. Mason, M.P.’s, left by train last evening en route to Napier, where they will attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party. Mr. Paul Sykes, junr., of the Department of Trade at Ottawa, has been appointed Assistant Trade Commissioner for Canada at Auckland, to act while the commissioner, Mr. C. M. Croft, is visiting Canada. At Whangarei on Thursday last there was a gathering in the Courthouse for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr. V. C. Butcher, assistant Ojerk, who has been transferred to Christchurch. He was presented with a case of pipes and a gold-mounted fountain pen. Captains W. E. Earnsliaw, M.C., and J. P. Haugliton, Lieutenants W. Ibbotson, A. f?. Milne, J. H. MacDougall and A. Ramsden have arrived from the South and are staying at the Star Hotel. Primarily they are in Auckland to attend the reunion of artillery officers, which takes the form of a dinner. The dinner is to be held on Wednesday next. There will be about sixty ex-officers there, all of whom saw service in the great war. Lieu-tenant-Colonel Northcroft, D. 5.0., will preside.
