UNEMPLOYMENT

WINTER CONDITIONS MUCH PESSIMISM Mr. J. Elliott, a candidate for the presidency of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, and president of the Auckland Suburban Cricket Association, has just completed a tour of the North Island branches of the A.S.R.S. and in an interview with a SUN reporter said that a great degree of pessimism existed among members about the outlook for the coming winter. The position of the new president of the A.S.R.S. will be a difficult one in view of this attitude of the members, Mr. Elliott stated, but with the hearty co-operation of the department the position should not give cause for scepticism.
