DUNEDIN’S EASTER
SPORT IN WET WEATHER RAILWAY TRAFFIC HEAVY Press Association DUNEDIN, Thursday. The Easter holiday season in Dunedin has commenced inauspiciously as far as the weather is concerned. Yesterday was cold and wintry and intermittent showers fell, and to-day similar conditions are prevailing. Yesterday the local Easter bowling tournament was opened. Play in the Easter tennis tournament was commenced this morning and will be continued to-morrow and on Saturday and Monday. A large number of people have left the city for other centres, and the various holiday resorts, despite the promise of unpleasant weather, are being liberally patronised. The train traffic both north and south has been very heavy, large contingent of sportsmen proceeding to the Christchurch Easter meeting in the north, and the Riverton meeting in the South. The railway traffic outward was exceptionally heavy, and much in excess of last year’s.
Good Wishes.—A pleasant function took place at the close of the Hamilton Borough Council meeting last night, when the mayor entertained councillors at supper, and referred to the retirement of Councillors Sim, Lowry, and Mason. The latter had a record of 22 years’ service. Appreciation was expressed of their work in most eulogistic terms.
