HIGHER WAGES WANTED

SEAMEN’S DEMANDS AUSTRALIAN COASTAL DISPUTE By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright MELBOURNE, Wednesday. A serious position is again threatened in connection with inter-State shipping. The Federal Management Committee of the Seamen’s Union has framed a new log for wages, which will be served on the shipowners. The union demands a large increase in wages, and requires structural alterations to be made in many vessels which trade on the Australian coast. Secrecy has been observed in regard to the proceedings, but it is stated that unless the owners agree to an immediate conference to discuss the new claims the seamen will be instructed to refuse to sail. after a date to be fixed unless they have been engaged on the terms of the new log.
