Acclimatisation Society.—The May meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society will be held at Hamilton and the August meeting at Huntly.

Maori Mormons. —A party of 200 Hawke’s Bay natives passed through Hamilton to-day en route to the big Maori Mormon gathering at Ngaruawahia.

Record Price for Calf.—At the Sydney Show cattle sales a Victorian-bred Shorthorn bull calf, 12 months old, realised 1,300 guineas. This is an Australian and New Zealand record for a bull calf.

Observation of Blood Vessels.—Professor Zonwiller, of Zurich, demonstrated before the Anatomical Congress an X-ray device which enables a detailed observation of the interiors of the minutest blood vessels.—A. and N.Z.

Fire at Surf dale.—Yesterday afternoon a three-roomed house at Surfdale, the property of W. R. Solomon, was destroyed by fire. The house was insured for £ 200 and the furniture for £ 100 with the A.P.A.

Breach of Prohibition Order.—The restraint, of a prohibition order proved too much for Ernest Walton, a Welshman of 34. Constable Fell found him drunk in Victoria Street yesterday, and as a result he was fined £1 10s, or five days, in the Police Court this morning.

Lucky Constables. —“Oh, an officer of the Police Foce can be served on a Sunday,” stated a hotel barman during the course of evidence at Hamilton yesterday, but the witness hastened to add that the rule applied “in cases of sickness when a constable had authority to procure liquor.”

Hamilton Borough Returns.—Returns presented to the Hamilton Borough Council at its last meeting show that the total value of building permits issued during the past year totalled £ 120.929 13s 6d. Building in the town has been fairly brisk, especially during recent months. Permits for March ran into £23,603.

To leave for Switzerland.—The Rev. 7. Milne leaves Auckland to-day by the Marama to represent the New Zealand Presbyterian Church at the Faith and Order Conference at Lausanne, Switzerland. in August. Delegates will attend from Norway in the North, to New Zealand and Australia in the south, and from Japan and China in the east to America in the west.
