LURE OF THE CITY
NOW SORRY HE CAME VAGRANCY CHARGE A man doesn't sit in a van in a vacant section all night for amusement. When Constable Collins found Henry Aruthur Esdale in this positon at 1.30 this morning, his explanation was that he was looking after the van until daylight. The constable thought the van was quite capable of taking care of itself, and took Esdale along to the lock-up. This morning the young man who is only 22, pleaded guilty to a charge of having insufficient lawful means of support. Captain Davies, of the Salvation Army, told the court that the accused who was a married man, had beer working in the country for 25s or 20s a week, and thought he could do better in the city. He found his mistake. He had done nothing for three weeks. On condition that he remained with the Salvation Army Mr. Hunt remanded Esdale for a week for sentence. • If he goes away to the country in the # meantime, well and good,” concluded the Magistrate.
