CONTROL OF SCHOOLS

COMITTEES ELECTED ANNUAL MEETINGS HELD Generally speaking, householders throughout Auckland were not greatly interested in the annual election of the school committees last evening. In some cases only one or two householders, apart from the committees, attended the meetings. Two people attended at Ponsonby, and one at Newmarket. Following are the election results, the annual reports having appeared previously: Avondale.—Air. J. B. Clark presided over about 160 householders. The committee was elected as follows: Alessrs. PI. A. V. Bollard (chairman), J. B. Clark, H. Harrison (secretary and treasurer). J. M. Somervell, T. J. Brown, A. Pringle, J. R. Johnston, W. A. Selton, and G. R. Desmond. Auckland City.—Air. T Sparkes presided at the Nelson Street School. The following were elected: Alessrs. W. Alillar (chairman), G. Tylcoat (treasurer), R. Appleton, A. Alathews, R. AlcGregor, A. E. Hall, C. Af. Holmes, W. Plolmes, A. J. Stratford, and O. McBrine (secretary). Belmont.—A committee was elected as follows: Airs. F. E. N. Gaudin, Alessrs. J. E. Close, A. R. H. Francis, J. N Nettle ton (secretary), E. Lilly (chairman), Airs. J. W. Williamson, Dr. N. A. Alexander, Air. H. W. Tidman, and Dr. N. Plowe. Dr. Howe and Air. W. F. Marshall each polled 58 votes. In the ballot Dr. Howe was successful. Birkenhead.—Air. J. P. AlcPhail presided, and the following committee was elected: Alesdames E. Alackey, C. A. Drummond and E. Gracie, Aliss G. AI. Franks, and Alessrs. John AlacDonald, R. O. White (chairman), G. Mackay, T. H. D. Boles, and J. Taft (secretary and treasurer). Brixton Road.—The Rev. A. J. Greenwood presided over about 60 householders. The following were elected to the committee: Alessrs. A. W. Brockie (chairman), S. E. Forbes (secretary). Airs. O. E. Hunter, Messrs. A. G. Brebner, C. D. Hartnoll, J. Maskell, A. Pauli, H. N. Preston, and J. Russell.

Cornwall Park.—Air. A. W. Baragwanath presided, and the following committee was elected: Alessrs. G. E. Smerdon (chairman). A. Cole, P. Bryan (secretary), W. I. Hancock, H. K. Jones, J. E. Alakgill, E. Muncaster, N. R. Wells, and R. AlcLeod.

Devonport.—Xhere was only a small attendance. The following committee was elected: Alessrs. J. R. Harty (chairman), J. A. Skinner (secretary), J. Beck (treasurer), A. L. Jones, T. E. Gooding, Rees George, J. Parker, N. Alelville, and Dr. H. C. Bennett.

Edendale.—Air. J. Currie presided over an attendance of over 80 householders. The following committee was elected: Messrs. J. Currie (chairman), C. A. Cartwright (secretary), Alesdames A. AI. Russell and Waugh, Alessrs. J. Biscoe, W. R. Goudie, F. Alay, A. Gear, and F. T. Williams.

Epsdm.—Air. R. G. Clark presided. The report stated that two pupils, Eric Goodwin and Philip Bowie, had gained Education Department scholarships, and Colin Beecroft gained a Rawlings Sholarship. The committee was returned unopposed, with Air. J. Parr chairman and Air. G. E. Waddington secretary. Gladstone.—Air. P. Floyd presided over about 50 householders. The following were elected to the committee: Alessrs. Peter Floyd (chairman), D. L. Thomas (deputy-chairman, secretary, and treasurer), C. Martyn, G. AI. Fowlds, A. Bennett. A. Le Bherz, A. Gallagher, A. AI. Walton, and Airs. AI. G. Patterson.

Grafton.—The following committee was elected: Airs. E. C. Alessrs. F. Atkins, S. C. Burton, W. J. Edwards, H. Horspool, and H. Radcliff (old members), Alessrs. C. J. AlcAlullin, J. Matson, and W. Marshall.

Grey Lynn.—There was a large attendance, and it was decided to protest to the Education Board and the Health Department against the prolonged use of temporary classrooms. The following committee was elected: Alesdames E. Henderson, F. Swan, and A. Vaughan, and Alessrs. H. P. Haines, G. H. Hiscock, F. E. Martin, W. H. Newton, A. Scott, and W. G. Shearer.

MeacJowbank.—Air. J. B. Paterson presided over 40 householders. The following committee was elected: Alessrs. J. B. Paterson (chairman), W. Alexander, G. R. Hutchinson, jun., H. E. Jones. H. O. Wiles, E. Wright and P. D. Wright, H. J. Mills (secretary), and E. E. Wigg (treasurer).

Maungawhau.—Air. G. Alars Presided over 30 householders. Regret was expressed that Airs. Mueller was not seeking re-election. Air. W. G. Lange was elected chairman.

Mount Eden.—Air. S. E. Chappell presided over a small attendance, and was re-elected chairman. At Mr. R. H. Potter’s suggestion, it was decided to ask the Education Board to furnish reports as to whether scholars were obtaining any benefit at the Kowhai Junior High School, as against a similar time being spent in the fifth and sixth standards at Alount Eklen.

Mount Roskill.—The following committee was elected: Airs. Bensell, Messrs. H. S. Anderson, A. S. Bullen, R. D. Ivelsey, J. Patterson, W. Stainton, A. Thompson, A. Warren, and P. W. Whyte.

Mount Albert. —Air. A. M. Wilson presided. The following were elected to the committee: Messrs. B. Brigham A. W. Dicks (secretary), E. H. Page (treasurer), J. P. Blair, G. Fillmore, U. F. Garland, T. Ivel, F. J. Alansell, and A. Atenzies.

Mangere East.—The following were elected to the committee: Alessrs. J. Clark (chairman), P. Cutfield, D. Ray, N. AlcDonald, W. W. Alassey, R. A. Ellison, and H. Hannah.

Newmarket. —Mr. J. Elliott presided over very few householders, and congratulated everyone on the work of the school. Air. T. J. "Watts was reelected chairman. Airs. AI. AI. Dreaver was the only new member elected to the committee. She replaced Mr. S. Williams.

Newton.—Air. John Jenkin presided over 150 householders. The following committee was elected: The Rev. T. Halliday, and Alessrs. F. W. H. Brinsden, W. Alills, J. Baird, H. P. Carlsen, W. E. Mingham, A. Davie, T. J. E. Bowles, and G. Rerr.

PAP AK UR A.—Rev. W. Wood presided over a small attendance at Papakura. Elected committee includes: Mrs. C. AI. AlcConnell, and Alessrs. H. H. Aluir, W. G. Alarkwick, R. H. Alays, A. L. Turner, J. Rea, G. H. Kernott, W. A r . Hardwick and the Rev. Wood, chairman.

PARNELL. —Another small attendance was presided over at Parnell by Air. W. Alunse. Following committee was elected: —Alesdames R. A. Bloodworth, secretary, A. Cross, C. AI. Neal, E. M. Watkin and Alessrs. G. Cameron, E. Collins, G. Pocock, C. Nadin, and J. W. Alitchell, chairman. PONSONBY. —Air. R. A. Rew presided over a small attendance at Ponsonby. The following committee was elected: —Alessrs. R. A. Rew, chair-

man, T. Aitken, W. T. Brown, S. H. Leyland, R. C. Renner, W. J. Searle, S. Takle, A. E. Wetherilt and Captain H. H. Sergeant. Air. S. A. deal was elected secretary.

PUKEKOHE. —Pukekohe elected the following committee: —Messrs. J. Patterson, chairman, J. Bellhouse. C. Blair, J. Aleyer, F. Sutcliffe, J. Russell, F. 11. Alead, J. Hunniford and A. V. Fox, secretary.

PAPATOETOE.—LittIe interest was displayed in the meeting. Names to be submitted to the Education Board

include: —Messrs Wainscott, Pennell, Culpan, Fricker, Doherety, Grinter and Franks. The board must add two other names to complete the committee. W HANGAR El. —The following - committees were elected in the Whangarei area:—

Kamo. —Messrs. P. R. Gardner, chair man, T. Gough, E. Swann. H. M. Bay liss and H. R. Collier.

Whau Valley.—Messrs. M. Porter, chairman, C. D. Windest, X. Dickey, J. Shucksmith, Calvert, Ogle and Mrs. Allen.

Whangarei.—Messrs. A. H. Curtis, chairman. H. X. Geissler, J. Palmer, H. Smeal, C. V. Stringer, W. Durham, R. J. Organ and J. S. Woolley and Mrs. C. R. Lovatt. Xo election was necessary.

Horahora. —Messrs. G. A. Bethell, A. C. Bevington, R. Redwood, A. Dickens, G. Richards and G. Boff and Mrs. Price.

VAUXH ALL. —Mr. H. H. Watkins was re-elected chairman, and Mr. R. E. Hunt, secretary. Vacancies yet to be filled.

ROYAL OAK. —The Royal Oak committee is as follows: —Messrs. A. J. Pople, R. H. Insull, S. Vella, T. S. Lamont, F. P. Hewitt, B. C. Blakey, V. C. G. Potter (old members), W. G. Mulholland and S. L. Barry. TE PAPAPA. —The Te Papapa committee is as follows:—Mesdames Jamieson and Stacey, Messrs. R. G. Speight, T. G. Harriman, C. Garside, F. Langton, R. G. Barnes, H. Dawson and Rev. F. R. Jeffreys.

ONEHUNGA. —Onehunga elected the following committee: Mesdames Fielding and Pickering, Messrs. J. Ballard, J. Campbell, W. J. Colledge, C. Garnhan, W. H. Hayward, W. Pritchard and H. R. Strong.

NEW LYNN. —Following committee was elected at Xew Lynn:—Mrs. Feeding and Messrs. R. Whitaker, chairman, R. Wells, treasurer, W. J. Parker, G. T. Reiman, J. Hurst, J. A. Yearbury, A. Brear and A. H. Stanton, secretary. REM U ERA.—Mr. B. L. Bagnall presided over 20 householders aj Remuera. Following committee was elected: Messrs. G. Brownlee, chairman, W. E. M. Hay, deputy-chairman, B. L. Bagnall, A. V. Burcher, W. J. Culpan, E. W. Inder, W. W. Murray, A. M. Paterson and X. P. Wyatt. Mr. A. E. H. Harrison was re-elected secretary and treasurer.

HOWICK. —Howick elected the following committee: Messrs. F. A. Irvine, chairman, J. Shaw, R. Speers, R. G. Wymen and J. Xicholas.

STANLEY BAY. —Mr. W. Howitt presided over a large attendance at Stanley Bay. The following committee was elected: Mrs. A. E. Stretton and Messrs. C. M. Browne, chairman. L. S. Bates, secretary, E. Bone, D. W. Darroch, B. S. W'oolacot, L. A. Cusworth, V. C. Fisher and P. J. Sheahan.

Hamilton East. —Messrs. F. Best, E. L. Watkins, E. J. Watkins, C. M. Muir, J. F. Calagher, R. W. Gower, F. Pickup, H. M. Baker, C. Speight. Forest Lake. —Messrs. J. W. Walsh, S. Findlay, G. T. POINT CHEVALIER.—Mr. M. J. Coyle presided over an attendance of 250 at Point Chevalier. Following committee was elected: Messrs. F. G. Rose, chairman, S. G. Crookbain, M. P. Hooper, P. D. Leah, H. Mattson, W. J. Molloy, T. Courtenay, H. E. Buckley and F Dyson.

WAIHI. —Waihi elected the following committee: Messrs. J. Learmontli, J. Beeche, George Armour, A. Blackmore, C. Browne, John Cunliffe, W. Turner, I-I. 'Adams, A. Leach. Mr. Learmonth was elected chairman and Mr. Beeche secretary.

GLEN EDEN. —Mr. W. H. Shepherd, chairman of the Town Board, presided at Glen Eden. Following committee was elected: Mr. J. Belsham (chairman), Mr. J. Moores (secretary), Mrs. Mellor, Mrs. Bagnall, Messrs. G. Eddleston, R. Hill, J. Allen, T. Dennis, and W. G. McLisky.

MOUNT ROSKILL. —The following committee was elected: Mrs. Bonsall, Messrs. H. S. Anderson, A. S. Bullen, R. D. Kelsey, J. Patterson, W. Stainton, A. Thompson, A. Warren, and D. W. Whyte.

NORTH COTE. —The Mayor (Mr. Deuxberry) presided at Xorthcote. Twenty householders attended. Following committee was elected: Mesdames A. E. Taylor and C. M. Lello, and Messrs. W. J. Xevill, C. M. Lello, T. T. McXab, T. Heaton, R. Martin, and R. McGhie.
