MR. C. Z. CLAYTON’S DEATH Mr. Charles Ziegler Clayton, a wellknown Auckland citizen, died at his residence, Sherwood Rise, Ellerslie, on Monday, at the age of 64. Mr. Clayton was a son of the late Mr. F. G. Clayton, at one time a prominent figure in Newmarket, and the first chairman of the old local road board, lie was born at sea on the troopship Ida Zeigler, on March 11, 1563, while rhe vessel was on its way from Auckland to London, and it was this circumstance that gave him one of his Christian names. Mr. Clayton graduated from Auckland Grammar School, and then attended the Auckland University, taking his LL.B. degree in ISB6. Fortyseven years ago he joined the legal firm of Messrs, llesketh and Richmond, afterwards becoming a partner. He will be well remembered as one of Auckland’s prominent footballers, and was also a prominent member of the Auckland Racing Club, being until recently chairman of the stewards’ committee. He is survived by a widow and five children —Mr. A. C. Clayton, a captain in the Imperial Forces, England: Mr. J. H. Clayton, a member of his late father’s firm; Mr. E. A. Clayton, of Whangarata: Miss Ida Clayton, of Auckland; and Mrs. Otway, of Morrinsville.
