TAXI-CAR STOLEN AND BURNED
AUDACIOUS JOYRIDERS Another motor-car has been stolen by joyriders and burned. This is the second occasion within a fortnight that a car has been destroyed after being taken from the city streets. The theft was a particularly audacious one. The owner of the car was a taxi-cab proprietor, Mr. Charles Nelson. Last evening, at 10.15 o’clock, he left his car for a few minutes on the stand at Newmarket. When he returned 15 minutes later the car had disappeared. At midnight the car was seen blazing in Eden View Road, Glen Eden. It was soon a total wreck. The car was a seven-seater Oldsmobile, and was valued at £ 300. The other car was found burned at East Tamaki on the morning of April 2. It was the property of Mr. W. F. Greenbank, of 35 Mount Pleasant Road, and was an Oakland, valued at £ 350. This car was taken from Chancery Lane on the evening of April 1.
