DOG TRIALS

ALLOTTING CHAMPIONSHIPS WHANGAREI CHOSEN (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Friday. On Thursday evening a conference of sheep dog trial clubs was held in Whangarei. The following North Auckland delegates were present: Messrs. J. E. White and E. G. Broad, Bay of Islands; D. Fergus and C. Ingram, Otamatea; H. Montgomery and J. Studholme* Hobson; and J. A. Finlayson and A. Fletcher, Whangarei. The Northland Club was not represented. Mr. J. A. Finlayson presided. Last year the championship meeting was held at Te Kuiti and at the subsequent conference it had been decided to allot the 1928 championship to North Auckland. It was therefore decided to hold the fixture at Whangarei, Speaking of the financial aspect, the chairman said the expense was heavy, but in view of Whangarei’s central position, the facilities for travelling and the greater population, the meeting could be made a financial success. Three cups valued at 20 guineas each had to be provided, and this was a matter the delegates must consider. It was finally resolved, on the motion of Mr. Finlayson, that presidents of the associated clubs be included in the executive and be empowered to make the necessary financial arrangements for the meeting. WHANGAREI CLUB At the annual meeting of the Whangarei Club, held the same evening, Mr. W. Crawford was elected patron, Mr. J. A. Finlayson, president. The committee was reduced to seven for this year, and Messrs. R. Newman, J. A. Clarke, Cliff Fraser, Eric Finlay son, A. C. M. Finlayson, H. B. Sloane and B. Clotworthy were elected. Appreciative references were made regarding the splendid services rendered to the club in the past by the secretary, Mr. C P. Butler, who agreed to accept office for a further term. Mr. T. O’Carroll was re-elected auditor.
