WAITEMATA COUNTY
SHERIFFS HILL ROAD CONCRETE STRIP PROPOSED At yesterday’s meeting of the Waitemata County Council, presided over by the chairman, Mr. G. O’Halloran. the question of substituting concrete for bitumen on portion of Sheriff’s Hill, Takapuna, was considered. It was explained that an estimate had been received from the Takapuna Borough Council for constructing 17 chains of road, 18 feet wide, for £1,907. In regard to the proposed width of the concreet strip, some objection was taken by members, it being considered that the width previously agreed upon, viz., 15ft., was quite sufficient. ’ It was decided to communicate with the borough council agreeing to pay one-third of the cost of a 15ft. strip. In regard to a request received from the Swanson Ratepayers’ Association asking the Council to have the Swan-son-Henderson Road from Rathgar Road to Brown’s Bridge, gazetted as a Government road, it was pointed out that the ratepayers were well served with the main highway which ran parallel with it. It was decided not to accede to the request. A deputation of ratepayers on Redhill Road, in the Waitakere Riding, waited upon the council with a request for assistance in repairing the road. The riding member was authorise! to spend up to £IOO on the work. The engineer reported that metal for the clay portion of the Silverdale-Red-vale Road was on the way and that the work would be commenced immediately.
