STUD SHEEP RETURNS
NEW ZEALAND FIGURES The following figures are compiled from the returns made to the New Zealand Government of the stud sheep registered in the Flock Books published in this country by the New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheepbreeders’ Association:—
RECENT IMPORTATION A VALUABLE ANIMAL TAPE FOR THE NORTH A valuable addition to North Auckland heads is the pedigree Jersey bull, Orangedale Rower’s Lionel, recently acquired by Mr. F. Hodson. The animal was bred by Messrs. W. J. Hall and Sons, and was sired by the imported bull, Rower’s Beautiful Prince. His dam is Primrose Chase. This cow belongs to the family which has won so many honours in the show rings, and put up fine records for Mr. Hall. There is no need to comment on Rower’s Beautiful Prince. His progeny are proof enough that he is a great sire. His dam. Rower’s Fawn Beauty, has an official record, on Jersey Island, of 6081 b. butter and 11.1541 b. milk at three years old, and sold at auction for £I2OO. Rower’s Lionel as a two-year-old had a good run in the show ring. As a yearling he got first prize at Hamilton show, and firsts at Matamata, Morrinsville, Te Aroha, and Paeroa. This year he was first in the two-year-olds at the Auckland Royal Show, and first at Te Aroha, Paeroa, Morrinsville, and Matamata; second at Cambridge and Hamilton, being beaten by it bull that he had triumphed over at the Auckland Royal Show and Te Aroha. Rower’s Lionel, like his sire, has, judging by his first crop of calves, proved that he is able to breed the type of heifers which are wanted.
