WEEK’S RETURNS By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright V LONDON, Thursday. The Bank of England returns for the week ended April 7, as compared with those for the week ended March 31. are as follows:
SHORT LOANS. Short loans, 4 per cent, compared with 4£ per cent last week: three months' bills, 4 5-16 per cent, compared with 4 3-8 per cent last week. CONSOLS AND COLONIAL STOCKS. The following table gives quotations for Consols and colonial inscribed stocks, compared with those of March 31:
FOREIGN EXCHANGES. The following rates on foreign exchanges are current to-day, as compared with the cabled quotations on April 4:
THE METAL MARKETS. (Quotations on April 4 in parentheses.) Copper.—Spot, £55 Is 3d (£55 11s 3d); three months, £55 13s 9d (£56 3s 9d). Lead.—Spot, £26 17s 6d (£27 3s 9d); three months, £27 8s 9d (£27 16s 3d). Spelter.—Spot, £29 13s 9d (£29 17s 6d); three months, £3O 3s 9d (£3O 8s 9d). Tin. —Spot, £309 12s 6d (£3ll 7s 6d); three months, £299 17s 6d (£3Ol 2s 6d). Silver.—Standard, 26 9-16 d (26 3-16 d) per oz; fine, 28 11-16 d (27 16-16 d). GRAIN MARKET. Wheat.—Cargoes are firm. Australians are in demand, and have advanced 3d to 6d. By the Urla, 52s 9d; Newton Beech, Siljan, part Buchan Ness, 535. Parcels are quiet, and advanced 3d to 6d. Ex City of Hankow, 53s 6d; ex Balranald, 535; ex Port Hobart, 52s 9d; ex Gotha, 53s 3d; ex Nardana., 535. Liverpool futures: May, 10s 4|d per cental; July, 10s 2gd; October, 9s llld. Spot trade is slow. Australian, ex store, 555. Flour. —Quiet. Australian, ex store, 395. Oats. —Firm. Australian and Algerian, 28s to 295; A Gartons, 28s to 30s. Peas.—Blue are dull, owing to heavy Japanese supplies; Australasian are neglected: Tasmanian, 360 s to 380 s; New Zealand, 320 s to 3405. Maples.—Small supply, with firm demand. Tasmanian, 120 s to 1255; New Zealand, 110 s to 115 s. —A. and N.Z. BUTTER MARKET STEADY Under date April 7, Mr. W. W. Bowker, produce exporter, advises receipt of the following cable from London : “ Butter. —Market is steady. Sales this week, 150 s, 1545. Allotments not quite cleared. Cheese: Market is firm. Sales this week, 745, 765. Allotments cleared.” TALLOW PRICES Under date April 6, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile advise receipt of the following cable from their London office: Tallow. —Fine mutton, 36s per cwt.; good beef, 38s per cwt.; mixed, 36s per cwt. Christchurch.—Sales on 'Change: National Rank of Australasia (£5 paid), £9 3s; Westport Stockton (ord.), Is; British Tobacco, 52s (two parcels); New Zealand Sugar of Milk, 255.
