A COMRADE’S TRIBUTE
O’DONOVAN’S FINE QUALITIES A MAN AND A FRIEND (Prom Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. A feeling tribute to the late Commissioner O’Donovan was paid by Commissioner Mcllveney, who spoke as head of the Police Force and also as one who served under the deceased. First, ancl always, O’Donovan was a man and a friend to everyone without distinction. He had the heart of a lion ancl the gentleness of a lamb. The people of New Zealand, as well as the members of the Police Force, would mourn the loss of one who always had the heart of a friend and, he said, “it is impossible for me to paint a picture of the heart of John O’Donovan. His soul was like a star and set apart. His temper and disposition were affectionate and generous, and he gave assistance and encouragement to all who approached him. His life will remain as an outstanding illustration of meakncss ancl humility governing high intellectual attainments, while his justice and humane treatment live in the memory of those who had had the pleasure of his acquaintance.”
