WINNING ART UNION PRIVATE INQUIRY HELD Yesterday a firm of solicitors inquired into the circumstances in which the winning ticket of the “Now or Never” art union was sold. This was done at the request of the agent who had returned the book to the organiser, Mr. W. G. Compton. The representative of the firm called on Mr. Compton, who laid his vouchers, books and all correspondence dealing with the art union before him. At the conclusion of the inquiry it was announced that no possible exception could be taken to the purchase of the winning ticket. Mr. H. Munro-Clark, the winner of the art union, was fortunate in purchasing the book containing the winning ticket. It was just a matter of chance that he picked the book out of three sacks full which were in the office of Mr. Compton, for whom he was working. “I am perfectly satisfied that the whole thing was perfectly open and above board,” said the representative of the legal firm yesterday.
