OUR NEW ’PLANE

TESTS IN ENGLAND INSPECTED BY CAPTAIN ISITT The new De Haviland cabin biplane which was ordered by the New Zealand Government some months ago, for use at the Wigram airdrome at Christchurch, is reported to have passed the necessary tests at the Stag Dane flying grounds in England. The engine installed in this machine is a 230-h.p. Siddeley “Puma,” and it will be the first airplane of post-war design to come to New Zealand. It is to be used in aerial survey work, and the camera will be mounted in the floor of the cabin, where the operator has ample space to work comfortably, and not be in any way hampered by the slipstream. When not being used for photography., the ’plane will carry four passengers. Like every other machine produced at the Stag Lane airdrome, the machine has been thoroughly tested, and has also been inspected by Captain L. M. Isitt, of the New Zealand Royal Air Force, who is at present in England studying aviation matters on behalf of his Government. The photo on our back page was taken shortly after a test flight near Stag Lane, when the countryside was clad in snow during the latter part of February.
