THOSE JOYRIDERS
On an average one motor-car a night is taken from the various parkingplaces in Auckland and the suburbs. Last evening two were taken. One, a Chandler car, the property of Wah Jang, fruiterer, of Lower Queen Street, was taken from Little Queen Street between 7.3 5 o’clock and 7.45 o’clock. It was recovered at 12.15 o’clock this morning and had not been damaged. Another car, the property of Mr. C. F. Nicholson, was taken from Victoria Street between the hours of 7.30 o’clock and 10.30 o’clock. It has not yet been traced. The joyriders are a constant pest in Auckland, and mean that much extra, duty descends on the police in searching for the lost cars. Occasionally the joyriders display a certain amount of arrogance. Some time ago a stolen motor-car was left outside the police station. The discovery was not made until after a constable had taken the number because there was no rear light on the vehicle.
Passports Refused. —The Australian Federal Government has refused to grant passports to Mr. J. Garden and other members of the Trades Union mission appointed to go to the Congress of Trades Unions which is to be held at Canton on May 1.
