PROGRESSIVE CLUB

SWIMMING AT MORRINSVILLE (From Our Oicn Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, Wednesday. At a meeting of the committee of the Morrinsville Swimming Club last night it was reported that 19 more children had passed swimming tests entitling them to certificates, making over 50 who had qualified in two seasons. This year one local girl of 13 years had qualified over a mile, this being the longest swim ever undertaken in the baths. The president forecasted a continued policy of securing the appearances of prominent Auckland swimmers to encourage the youngsters. In two seasons the club had had visits from Misses E. Champion P. Page, M. Farquhar, • M. Jepson (Otago), K. Miller (Otago), E. Stockley and J. Bell, and Messrs M. Champion, J. Curtayne, A. E. Baird and Bridson. Although these visits kept the club's finances down they would assist in the object of making the club second to nothing outside of Auckland. The club decided to withhold the 40 per cent, required by the New Zealand Swimming Association for the appearance of the Misses Stockley and Miller, pending a reply to complaints made in connection with the visit.
