AF IMFORTAF V PROGRAMME FOR DOMINION EX'.FT*. 3 (From (Htr Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, To-day While the more domestic of our kind problems are being faced by the Minister and others in the Lands Department, valuable scientific results are expected from the projected excursion to Rowett Institute,, of Aberdeen, by Mr. R. E. R. Grimmett, member of the Agricultural Department chemical staff, now at Rotorua. He will leave New Zealand on April 23 for six months for special training in pasture investigation. Later, Mr. Jttigg, M.Sc., chemist to the Cawthron Institute, will visit the Rowett Institute. The purpose of his visit is to follow a scheme of which the first step is analysis of samples of pastures, and, where considered advisable, of soils, to determine the mineral content of the pastures in various areas and in different seasons. . The next step is the correlation of minerals with other constituents and with the nutritive value of pasture 'as determined by the carrying capacity and the health, rate of growth and. production of the animals grazing on it. The third stage relates to feeding tests to determine the effect of feeding to grazing animals mixtures of mineral salts, or foodstuffs rich in the minerals found to be deficient in pastures. Fourthly, experiments are to be made to determine whether, and to what extent, information obtained under the foregoing heads can be used for the improvement of the pastures.
