ARBITRATION

CITY MAYORALTY

MR. WARNOCK CONSENTS

MR. BAILDON CONSIDERING

The Citizens’ Progressive Election Committee, which commenced action on Saturday to reduce the number of candidates opposed to the Labour nominee, has received a reply from Mr. J. A. Warnock, agreeing that his nomination should be subjected to the scrutiny of an arbitration committee, in conjunction with that of Mr. G. Baildon.

Mr. W arnock’s reply is as follows: To Messrs. Robert Burns, Albert Spencer, A. G. Cooke, C. M. Fenwick, IT. Goldie, A. S. Milne, A. McCosh Clark, H. P. R. Caughey, Robert Farrell and Wm. McArthur. Gentlemen, — Your letter of the 26th inst., to hand. I have noted and carefully considered the contents and in reply I beg to state that I am prepared to have the matters contained therein submitted to arbitration for settlement. My reason for this decision is that the interests and welfare of Auckland, and its citizens, are of more importance to me than personal advancement. My only is that the right choice should be made in the selection of a candidate for Mayor, and I therefore leave the matter for settlement by arbitration, as suggested by you. Yours faithfully, (Signed) _JAS. A. WARNOCK.

Neither Mr. G. Baildon, the present oayor, who was unofficially supported by members of the Citizens’ Committee last election, nor Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, who is chairman of Mr. Baildons’ committee this year, would make any definite statement this morning, the position being that Mr. has not had the opportunity of meeting his committee and discussing the Citizens’ Committee’s letter. Any comment which Mr. T. Bloodworth, the Labour candidate, has to on the position will be made when Mr. Bloodworth opens has mayoral campaign at a public meeting in t 3 Town Hall this eveing.
